I enjoy those old renders and that style so much. Surely there must be someone out there replicating this style - and if not, it must be next to come along the modern indie game progression of pixel art > PS1 style renders > N64 promo image renders.
That Metal Mario image is amazing. Some super super cool stuff could be done with emulating that style with ray tracing etc.
Oh! I remember that metal Mario from the player's guide. Dammit, wish I hadn't already boxed up the Nintendo Power issues-- some of the posters and page layouts featured renders all the time.
Those beveled wooden frames with text are such a product of their time. That's the typeface used in Splatoon menus now hey?
Thanks so much for digging up your old Nintendo Power . I used to have all my N64 game manuals etc, but I think either my parents or brother got rid of them years ago
The Link's awakening remake is top-notch art direction, it really felt like the game was one big toy playset. The Diamond and Pearl remakes should have taken a ton of notes from it IMO
This wiki is made to present information on the texture and sound libraries used by Nintendo to create Super Mario 64's assets and trivia regarding them with other games. Secondarily this will be a general purpose resource for creating assets related to Super Mario 64 and Fast64. (Tool used to create custom graphics and levels within the Super Mario 64 PC port.)
this is the mario pc port retextured to look like the renders. i'm not sure if I like the look tbh but it is neat. oh, here's their website.
