Obsessively playing Helldivers 2, and just started FF7 Rebirth. So far, not enjoying Rebirth as much as Remake, but at least HD2 kicks ass. Also, I started Cyberpunk again, since I didn't get very far last time. haha

I super enjoyed Helldivers 1 back when it released. I always thought it flew under the radar - so it's been great to see the success and praise for Helldivers 2. Really glad they kept the stratagems and friendly fire that made the first game so chaotic. I will hopefully buy and play it with a friend in the near future once their server load situation is under control a bit more.

I was thinking about Control recently after watching some episodes of Severance.

So naturally the best thing for me to do was to start playing Alan Wake, with the aim of then moving on to Control and then to Alan Wake 2.

I've never played Alan Wake before and only had a somewhat negative impression of it from reading online over the years. I'm really enjoying it! Yes it's definitely a 360/PS3 era game in a big way, and yes Alan Wake himself seems like a real dipshit. But it's been really fun in a B-grade horror movie sorta way.

Ah yeah. There's also a "developer commentary" mode that adds little speech bubbles throughout the game that you can play to get insight on tons of design decisions. (I've been meaning to go through it that way for years but never have.) Might be of interest once you complete a playthrough!

I'm playing through Majora's Mask for the first time. Mainly thanks to the recompilation project, which is a great way to play.

I always thought the time mechanic would be really stressful but it's mostly been a breeze. (With a guide handy to avoid any major frustration, lol.) Just beat the Goron / snow area and am really enjoying it so far!

Hurt my hand in February so just stopped gamin' altogether. Don't think there's any issue with using mouse & keyboard, though, so tried a little Prodeus tonight and had a really fun time.

Yoooooo, I've been MIA for a while (got married!), and we had some family stay with us for a couple of weeks so I had an opportunity to dust the ol' Switch off and we played some:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Extra Course Pass: Hey who'dve thought Mario Kart was still good? Some of the new courses didn't feel as exciting as the original game tracks, but the handful of new characters made jumping back in fun (hell yeah Kamek).

Boomerang-fu: This is one of the best little low-stakes multiplayer party games I've played in a long time. The only unfortunate thing is the dual-stick mechanics might be a little tricky for those who are less familiar with games in general, but it's relatively easy to learn. They probably need to add more maps/powerups for more variety. But I highly recommend it!

Heave-Ho: Extremely funny and enjoyable for an hour or two but then gets a bit frustrating after that point as the stages begin to get more difficult. The head-to-head mode is also great but becomes a bit stale due to a small repeating pool of stages.

Overcooked 2: Fun once you're in the flow of things but very difficult to pick up and play with those who aren't familiar. Also causes anxiety lol.

PlateUp!: This one was a great surprise! My wife and I have been putting heaaaps of hours into this since the guests left and we were looking for something to scratch that Overcooked-style itch. PlateUp takes the kitchen chaos of Overcooked and wraps it in a restaurant builder/management roguelike. Lots of fun, and I think more satisfying than Overcooked in the long-run.

Outside of multiplayer stuff, I've just been poking at:

Alan Wake 2: Haven't had a lot of time to dive back into this properly. The first few hours of the game were compelling (and actually quite spooky), but I feel like I need a few hours free at a time to sink my teeth in, so I haven't picked it up again in the last few weeks.

Hades 2: It's more Hades. It's excellent. There's definitely enough game in there already in its Early Access state to justify diving in early. Very excited to keep plugging through this one!

Barely anything going these past few months. Finally got around to Stray thanks to the local library. Had an unexpectedly emotional time with it-- those ever melancholic future places and their mindfulness to the suffering of small things...

Also went back and got around to beating VA-11 Hall-A. It was alright, in a "crafted by a recovering 4channer reintegrating to society" kind of way, lol. I JEST, it had its moments for sure.

I have been playing through Elden Ring again and am gearing up to start the DLC. I am kind of intimidated because I've heard it's much harder than the base game. But very excited to explore new spaces and see new things! Doing a dual-twinblade build this time and it's great. But nothin' beats dual whips, imo.

@malyzar it's weird, it's kinda both easier and harder. I'll just let you know in advance, the best way to increase your combat effectiveness in the DLC world is by exploring it thoroughly. There's a new stat that's governed entirely by how many of a certain type of object you've found. That stat is dramatically important, and those objects are found largely just by exploring every nook and/or cranny. Treat it like Astro Bot and you should be good to go.

Been occasionally watching my partner play Baldur's Gate 3 and felt like trying a character. A long while back I had a "Bitters the Dwarf" for Dragon Age Origins and thought what better time to bring that bastard back to the fore. So now he's here with an angry high-def bowl cut, and a Duergar barbarian criminal to boot. Watching him hop around like a big flea with an axe is very funny to me. Still getting used to the controls, though. We'll see how long I last...
