Last year I did a couple play-throughs of The Outer Worlds and it made me realize I still hadn't ever really played New Vegas. Fast forward to the last week of us catching covid, was watching Noah Caldwell-Gervais' travelogue comparison about Fallout locations and their real-life counterparts/inspirations, figured I'ma play New Vegas. So that's what I've been doin'.

Oh HELL yeah. I truly think that game is a masterpiece. It's the best actual "role playing" game I've encountered to date. Not to build it up too much or anything, lol.

This was not worth making a thread for so I'm dumping it in here:
Saw this at a thrift shop today. It was actually the only video game related item in the store.
$45 AUD lol

Literally started a new playthrough of FNV just last week, easily my fav RPG, some of the funniest dialogue you'll find in video games.breakfastcowl wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 00:30 Last year I did a couple play-throughs of The Outer Worlds and it made me realize I still hadn't ever really played New Vegas. I think I did a too-quick initial play through, I'm going to go about taking my time on a future build. I also tried the "Wabbajack" mod-installer route for a pre-configured/curated batch, but antivir was flagged several times and like 50+ other mods ended up requiring a version of the game I don't have! (Daniel Day-Lewis voice: I look like a fool!)
...SO, I'm pausing for a moment.
Library here has a video game shelf and so I gave "Triangle Strategy" a try for Switch. Maybe it's been a moment but I do NOT remember there being this much plot/lore dumping in these things. Just hours of text & story, might as well be a visual novel, peppered with the action. At least it all looks great.

It was a triple-take kind of moment seeing that! Not a large collection, but a pretty good sampling, from Wii and 3DS games on up to PS5. The library in the next town over, though, doubly blew my mind where they had an aisle of actual vinyl records still available, for checking out even. Prompted me to hesitantly ask the front desk if they still offered audio cassettes or VHS tapes? Nope, those are DONEandrewelmore wrote: ↑26 Aug 2023, 14:50 Oh man I can't believe your library has games, that's amazing

I checked my local library for games. Nothing . Maybe I'll write to em and ask them to look into it!
Lately, I've been jumping into Halo Infinite multiplayer as a casual low-stakes shooter to pick up for 30 mins or so at a time.
That's a great game. It plays well, it looks great, it's got the gameplay spirit of old Halo and arena shooters in general.
But - there's just enough free to play live service game bullshit around the edges of it to make it a frustrating experience.
I wish I could fully customise my Haloman without dropping $20 into their weird pre-fab colour and armour parts system.
I wish there was a proper sever browser and filter system without needed to play their current rotation of seasonally available modes (though this is much better than at launch). There is a Custom Game browser now, but it's purposely designed and pushed off to the side in a way that usually if I create a game, I sit in an empty lobby for 20 minutes waiting for one player to join.
I wish so much of the game wasn't built around convincing you to buy into and then grind out battle passes.
Of course, it's easyish to ignore that stuff. But it also isn't. and if I want to make my Haloman look cool (which I do) I do need to engage with it.
Anyway, Halo is good. It would be nice if it was better.

My library also does not have any video games.
Lately I've been playing Ultimate NES Remix on the 3DS. Basically a perfect handheld game. Ideal for short bursts, but has that "one more level" appeal that turns short sessions into much longer ones. I love it!

My library actually DOES have games! In fact, they were even selling some when I was there a few weeks ago. Including a boxed copy of Kings Quest 5 for PC. I'm not entirely sure why! But it was pretty rad.
