- Little Nightmares is amazing! It inspired me to try out making my own 2.5D games.
- Recently I've been playing Remnant II with friends!

^ Lol now what's going on here

Also for anyone who's played the FFVII Remake, what was your preferred style of controlling battles? Follow-up question: if playing it with full control, how long did it take you get accustomed to things?

You can still get sealed copies of The Official Video Game of Famiclub (AKA the A1 budget release of Starfighter Sanvein, an excellent shooter by Success and localized by AgeTec) online for a sinlge-digit amount of dollars. I'm currently trying to decide if getting one of my two sealed copies of that game graded by the hucksters at WATA is a joke that's worth fifty bucks or not.

As for FFVII Remake, when you say full control, do you mean in contrast to that semi-turn-based mode?

Haha!

In related news, I recently discovered that www.sanvein.com is an available domain.

Yeah, "Normal" mode with full player input
vs.
"Classic" automated hits/evasions but still with X command and character switching

Ahh, right, that's how they broke it down.

I'm not sure how to put it, really! I think I mostly just, uh, slapped fools with swords and whatnot. Try to focus on building stagger as quickly as possible, and then burn DPS really hard when the enemies are downed and taking way more damage. It also might help if you've previously played FFXIII and/or Crisis Core, I suppose! Though that's not especially helpful advice either!

played a couple of next fest demos tonight.

Summerhouse is a cozy little city builder that i think someone with a lot of creativity to spare would enjoy chilling out with. i liked that you can unlock some bonus tiles by playing around with them. there’s no objective in the game, you just build for the sake of it. not for me, but i can imagine people having fun with it. looking forward to seeing their creations once the full game is out.

#BLUD feels like i’m playing the grim adventures of billy and mandy but more bloody and with combat. it’s a top down adventure game where you control a pink-shaded girl and fight bugs, monsters, and vampires in high school. the little bit of content in the demo gives a great idea of what it has in store and includes a few sidequests to pad out time too. an insta-wishlist because i fell in love with the artstyle before even playing it

Finished Baldur's Gate 3 last night! Had a bunch of technical issues (kept getting a crash right at the end and almost gave up on finishing it, lol, but after a few tweaks, my computer was finally able to hang on). But what an incredible game! Played it co-op with my wife, who had already gone through it like three times. She basically guided me through the whole thing, which was a great experience, because I probably would have been overwhelmed and bounced off without her help.

The characters and stories were the biggest draw for me. But I also now have a much greater appreciation for turn-based combat and all the depth and fun those systems allow for. We're planning on doing another Dark Urge co-op run in the future, maybe on Tactician difficulty to really lean in on all those mechanics. A Good Game!

What's been happening since I last posted:
  • I finished Symphony of the Night (sort of!). I defeated an inverted Dracula, anyway. I actually didn't realise I was going to be stumbling into the end of the game when this happened, so I wasn't expecting to be fighting Dracula so suddenly. I'm also still not even sure if that was the real ending, since this game seems to be full of fake-outs. There's still so much to do and collect - so I think I'll keep poking at it for a while. Which actually brings me to..
  • Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night/Rondo of Blood was on sale on the PS store for $5 so I figured I'd pick that up so I could check out Rondo, and have the enhanced (?) version of Symphony rather than the 360 Arcade version I was playing above. So I reckon what I'll do is play through Rondo next, and then maybe start Symphony again and go for the 200% if I can get that far. But also...
  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night just popped on to Game Pass. Not sure if I'll get into that one just yet, or do Rondo first.
  • I've been poking at Enshrouded with some friends online and solo. A chill little soulslike tree-puncher. I think it's just Valheim with more specific character classes and progression. It's scratching a certain comfy itch at the moment where I just want to kill things and build a little house.
and finally, on and off I've still been playing:
  • Halo Infinite Mutiplayer, which actually, credit where it's due, has added a lot of good little features and improvements since I posted about their frustrating live-service model a few months ago. It's actually doing a lot better at avoiding the ick and grime that comes with monetisation of similar live-service games. Their infinite length battle passes are great, they're making a lot more of the armour modules compatible with each other and easy to acquire so you have a lot more flexibility with your Halo Guy without dumping money into the store, and they've been adding heaps of maps, modes, and improvements to custom games etc. I actually think it's one of the most fun shooters of its kind out there right now. Great just to jump into a game or two and turn your brain off for a while.

It would be so good (and probably a bunch of work) to make an era-appropriate "official" website for the game. Let's put something on the drawing board after Famicase 24.

Another batch o' gaming:
  • Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon
My first "bayonetta" game haha. Broke my brain a bit with its right-hand/left-hand control for the two characters, one of those games where it felt like I was learning how to play it for the entire length. But an absolutely charming storybook adventure on the overall. When traversing the fairy forest there are interdimensional areas called Tír Na Nógs which effectively act as arena or puzzle stages; the puzzle ones in particular, where it really stresses the dual character navigation... it's not a focus of the main adventure, but they're really fun and because there's not all that many of them you get the sense there's another whole game there that could've been made instead. Towards the end of the main story the game does veer hard into what I assume is the more traditional Bayonetta experience and I had a beast of a time trying to suddenly keep pace with my fast action and quick-timing prompts.
  • Disgaea games
So I sampled a bunch, just trying to get a feel for the thing in the early stages. Disgaea 2, 3, 4, D2, and 5. The art and humor is very fun, the tactics gameplay encouraging the player towards open-ended over-the-top action. I don't have multiple hundreds of hours to devote to this series, but it's going on the backburner all pleasant-like.
  • Pokemon Legends Arceus
Checking into this franchise occasionally. And this is the one they're saying is a breath of fresh air for the series?? Oof, not for me, I really haven't been able to get with it for over a decade now. I'm glad folks are having fun.
  • Gal Guardians: Demon Purge
lol didn't even realize this was a Gal Gun spin-off. Again, just playing it for a little bit, don't have a full play-through in me (even it's easy mode is v difficult for me. Makes me wonder how I'd fare if I ever try SotN again...)
  • Kirby Star Allies
It's cute. It's Kirby. But I am glad I borrowed it, as there is no way I'm paying what Nintendo is charging for it.
  • Luigi's Mansion 3
Was just going to check it out, but now I don't know I might just end up completing it :D The control is a little awkward for me? But it's kinda satisfying when I make it work, and vacuuming up piles of cash and stuff feels really good lmao
