THE HORROR

HEY IT'S OCTOBER AND THIS PLACE HAS BEEN DEAD(rising) SILENT(hill) LATELY

time for a survival horror games thread imo

I started playing D2 the other night and I'm not sure what to make of it yet! I love Kenji Eno. Though at the moment I'm mostly just hoping it has more to it than four discs of running around bumbling into random encounters over and over?

Also my Resident Evil: Dead Aim video is almost done!

Hey, great idea! I almost made a similar thread a couple days ago but didn't finish it. Stoked for the Dead Aim video!!!

The next horror game on my list is probably Signalis. Got it a while back but haven't played much, yet. Ive heard nothing but good things. (I also still need to play D! Too much in the backlog.)

I tried giving Blair Witch (2019) a shot but my PC just can't push those pixels :(

I'll bet Duskers will work, though! Would also like to give Little Nightmares II a try, too, once the cold weather hits. Also Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which we just realized Ez has in his collection, I've never played it

I played it for a couple of hours (and also watched several video essays about it, lol) and I do not think you're missing too much! As a super fan of the movie, it has very little to do with anything Blair Witch. The woods look nice and stuff, but it doesn't earn the title at all, imo.

I also haven't played Amnesia! Another one on the backlog. I've also heard great things about the newest outing, The Bunker. A little more mechanics heavy. Looks neat!

^ I'm keen to try! Still pretty unversed in the whole segment of games. Thanks to those Epic freebies we also have Rebirth (which might also be roughhh on my PC, rip) and A Machine for Pigs which I'll likely try out after the first one.

Good news, that's exactly what the original "D" is! D is a Kenji Eno game for the 3DO that also saw ports to PS1, Saturn, and PC. It was recently re-released by Nightdive on Windows, Mac, & Linux via Steam, and the original MS-DOS version is still available on GOG.

If you want something a bit less, uh, goofy, and a bit more gameplay-y but still very much in that vein, Eno and Warp (his studio of ridiculously creative weirdos) followed it up with Enemy Zero on the Saturn. Enemy Zero has never been released anywhere else, but it emulates well on Mednafen. I played it last year on my Polymega with no issues, and that's just software emulation.

A couple of weeks ago I started the RE2 remake with my partner watching along and then she became too scared and I haven't been able to play it since lol.

I'll need a find something a little more mildly spooky to play through with her either co-op or watching along.

I was always curious about Little Nightmares as well so that might be a good one to check out!

Oh man, RE2make is an INCREDIBLE work of game design, but it's also an exercise at keeping the tension as high as possible and sustaining it. I couldn't finish it when it came out just because everything else in life was keeping me in a similar state already. I was like, I love this game, but if I keep playing it I might go to the hospital lol.

I also really, really loved RE2make but only played through each campaign once. I've been meaning to revisit it (for years now). But those zombies are so damn stressful, lol.

Decided to revisit Silent Hill 3 and it rocks. It's my favorite of the series. Very stressful, especially the audio design, but I'm having a great time. If my enthusiasm stays high, I may take another swing at SH4. I was never able to finish that one.

YEAH! I tinkered around with it for the first time a month or so ago. I've also heard that the second one is an improvement in every way.

Bringing this thread back from the dead!

Are you all playing any horror games at the moment? 'Tis the season. I am pretty much consumed by Elden Ring right now, but I've been considering another Condemned: Criminal Origins playthrough.

Also, any thoughts on the Silent Hill 2 remake? I'm not planning on playing it because I'm a curmudgeon. But I am curious what the people think.
